I first connected with Creative Modular Construction (CMC) in Springfield, Missouri, thanks to an introduction from my friend and industry colleague James Haas at Nichiha. That introduction reminded me just how much the modular construction industry thrives on relationships, shared interests and opportunities, people helping each other grow, and how those connections can help the industry grow.
The introduction from James quickly turned into meaningful collaboration. We followed up with joint calls to meet the CMC team at an offsite construction networking conference in Denver and later arranged an in-person visit to their facilities spread throughout Springfield, Missouri. These interactions allowed me to see their operations firsthand, meet the team driving the work, and understand both their challenges and their vision for the future.

What struck me about CMC right away is that their work goes far beyond simply producing modular units efficiently. They are deeply committed to giving disenfranchised members of their community a fresh start, including individuals who have previously been incarcerated. That focus on opportunity, combined with the faith and values of the executive team, shapes the way they operate internally and externally. It is a company culture where integrity, respect, and trust guide every decision, and it shows in the way they treat their employees, partners, and clients alike. A quick look at their YouTube site shows how much this value is above everything with their “The people we build” series which focuses on getting to know their employees on a personal level.
Working with CMC has given me a front-row seat to how mission-driven leadership and strong values can intersect with high-volume manufacturing. I have had the opportunity to help them with the efficiency and energy performance of their modular builds, which supports their growth while ensuring the units they deliver are practical, reliable, and energy-efficient for end users. But beyond the technical side, what makes this work truly rewarding is seeing how they invest in their employees and community, creating real opportunities and giving people a chance to succeed.
CMC’s current facilities already operate at near-maximum capacity, producing hundreds of modular units per year. Yet their vision doesn’t stop there. They are currently working on moving to a larger factory later this year, which will allow them to expand production, bring in more employees, and take on new modular projects. It is exciting to see a company so focused on growth, not just in business terms, but in the lives of the people they touch along the way.
For me, this connection was not just a professional engagement; it was a chance to witness a company where skill, mission, and values come together to make a meaningful impact. Every unit they produce represents more than a part of an end product; it represents opportunity and integrity for people who need it.
Stories like CMC’s are exactly what make the modular construction world inspiring. The industry is not just about speed, scale, or technology. It is about people, partnerships, and shared values driving innovation and growth. I am proud to support and partner with CMC on their journey and look forward to seeing the positive influence they continue to have, not only on the modular industry but on individuals whose lives they touch.
