Angel Allen is featured as a Woman in Construction. She uses sustainable building practices and works with offsite solutions.
Angel Allen says construction has seen little innovation in over 100 years. She points to a housing crisis and an environmental crisis. She became interested in panelization and modular design to help create more affordable and sustainable housing. She also wants to build commercial buildings that are kinder to the environment and future generations.
She wants to continue educating people and spreading awareness about more sustainable ways to build.
She encourages women not to lose themselves or lose hope. She says the struggle to prove yourself can be exhausting, but the greater the struggle, the greater the reward. Her message is simple: do not let anyone change you.
She is motivated by the desire to create real change and value in the industry. She enjoys solving challenges, meeting new people, and making a positive impact on others, especially people who need extra help.
She says Maya Angelou’s poem “Phenomenal Woman” has stayed with her since middle school.
“It’s in the click of my heels, the bend of my hair, the palm of my hand, the need for my care. ’Cause I’m a woman phenomenally. Phenomenal woman, that’s me.”
Her biggest victory was earning her degree in Management Information Systems. She married and started a family shortly after high school, transferred schools several times because of moves with the US Air Force, and graduated after a long journey. She gave birth to her fourth child three weeks before the end of her last semester, returned to class the following week, and received her diploma with honors.
