We're excited to bring you in-depth coverage of cutting-edge methods like modular construction, lean manufacturing, and high-performance builds. With experts on board, we explore prefab innovation and beyond to keep you informed on the latest in construction technology.

We also want to extend a big thank you to Wesco, our official sponsor. Wesco provides top-tier supply chain solutions, working relentlessly to ensure smooth operations around the globe. Their dedication to innovative solutions enables uninterrupted lives and consistent ingenuity in delivering quality service.

In this blog, we'll dive deeper into a unique aspect of the industry: the Unico HVAC system. This small duct, high-velocity system is not only engineered for traditional builds but is now making waves in the modular construction space. From panelized companies to modular factories, Unico is redefining HVAC solutions, especially for offsite builds.

We recently had the pleasure of hosting three of the five passionate brothers behind Unico, Shannon, Scott, and Shawn Intagliata. These leaders have been instrumental in bringing HVAC innovation to offsite construction.

Here’s a peek into our conversation:

Meet the Experts:

•           Shannon Intagliata is the National Sales Manager at Unico, overseeing a network of 18 rep firms and about 100 field reps. He ensures that distributors and HVAC contractors are supported with training and product care.

•           Scott Intagliata manages marketing, international sales, and Unico's e-commerce operations. His involvement in modular industry events such as Advancing Prefab and World of Modular has brought visibility to Unico’s advancements.

•           Shawn Intagliata leads Cobalt Creed, a subsidiary of Unico, focusing on integrating Unico systems into modular applications, helping streamline HVAC installations within factory settings.

What Makes Unico HVAC Special?

The Unico system delivers air at twice the speed of conventional HVAC systems while maintaining low noise levels and enhanced energy efficiency. Its small ductwork easily fits into tight spaces, making it ideal for modular construction. This is particularly useful in a factory setting where most of the installation work can be pre-done, reducing on-site labor.

One standout feature is Unico’s ability to remove 30% more moisture than traditional systems, making it highly effective in humid environments. With quiet operation, compact ductwork, and excellent thermal insulation, the Unico system ensures maximum comfort with minimal energy loss.

A Deep Dive Into Modular Success

Shawn Intagliata shared insights on the installation of Unico systems in modular factories. By reducing on-site labor, Unico has become a game changer for modular construction, with successful installations in nine factories so far. Their unique flat duct system fits into tight interstitial spaces between floors, making it easy to pre-install most components in the factory, leaving minimal work to be done on-site.

Customer Training and Support: One of the factors that set Unico apart is their comprehensive training programs, both online and in person. From field training to a state-of-the-art facility in Missouri, Unico ensures that HVAC contractors and modular factory teams are well-equipped to install and maintain the system. They also provide a free design service, offering modular builders detailed plans and material lists for seamless integration.

Looking Forward

As Unico continues to evolve in the modular market, the company's focus on custom homes, multifamily developments, and duplexes is expanding. Their seamless solutions and dedication to customer service make them a perfect fit for modular construction.

We look forward to seeing how Unico’s system will further shape the future of offsite builds, driving innovation in both efficiency and comfort.

Thank you, Wesco, for partnering with us on this journey to bring cutting-edge technology and solutions to the construction industry!

Unico’s success in modular factories is a great example of the offsite construction model in action—moving critical work into a controlled environment for better quality and less on-site labor. When you understand the offsite workflow, it’s easier to see why factory-ready systems like Unico deliver faster, cleaner installs.

US Frame Factory: Revolutionizing Cold-Formed Steel Solutions in Construction

Factory efficiency isn’t just about HVAC—it’s also about how the structure gets built. The rise of factory-driven framing shows how precision manufacturing can speed up production, reduce waste, and standardize assemblies across projects. It’s the same mindset that makes factory-installed mechanical systems more predictable.

As more factories look to standardize workflows, the next challenge is repeatable scale without sacrificing quality. Insights on scaling factory production highlight the role of process design, coordination, and collaboration across trades—exactly what’s needed to integrate HVAC systems smoothly into modular lines.
