Key facts

What BuiltWorlds says the award recognizes

The Global Innovator awards recognize companies that are driving change internally and externally. BuiltWorlds says the award highlights organizations on the leading edge of innovation to inspire, educate, and inform the broader ecosystem.

Why the list expanded

Tyler Sewall, senior research director for BuiltWorlds, said the expansion reflects the growing role of innovation in the industry. He pointed to the increase in companies with innovation teams and the growth of those teams.

He said many innovation teams began with pilot programs or early-stage technology investments. More mature teams now build open innovation programs across business units. These programs can combine pilot programs, venture investments, corporate development, and business innovation efforts.

BuiltWorlds quote

“The technological maturity of the construction industry has advanced significantly, and this progress is no accident.”
