Sika Introduces Automation-Ready Innovation for Modular Construction at World of Modular 2026

By Audree Grubesic, Founder of Offsite Dirt Network

At the World of Modular, one of the biggest conversations across the industry was simple: how do we build smarter, faster, and more efficiently without creating more complexity for factories and labor teams?

That question is exactly what made our conversation with Sika USA so interesting this year.

During our interview, we spoke with Florian Altenwegner about the company’s newest innovations focused on modular and industrialized construction. As modular construction continues to evolve, manufacturers are searching for products that improve production efficiency, reduce labor challenges, and help create more consistent quality across factory operations. Sika brought a very hands-on and practical solution to the show floor that caught a lot of attention.

Their newest product, the SikaBiresin® AP300, was designed with automation and factory production in mind.

What makes this product especially interesting is that it helps reduce or potentially eliminate traditional drywall mudding and taping processes that are often labor intensive and time consuming in construction and modular manufacturing.

At their booth, the Sika team demonstrated the flexibility of the material using a mock-up they built themselves. They even created a functioning door joint to show how durable and flexible the product could be in real-world applications. The demonstration was simple, visual, and effective — exactly the kind of practical innovation the modular industry appreciates.

One of the biggest advantages discussed during the interview was accessibility. Many factory owners want to improve automation but feel overwhelmed by the cost of implementing entirely new production systems. Florian explained that the SikaBiresin® AP300 product was developed to work in both fully automated environments and manual applications. That flexibility gives manufacturers the opportunity to begin improving processes without immediately investing millions of dollars into automation equipment.

Across offsite construction, labor shortages continue to impact production timelines, quality control, and scalability. Products that simplify workflows while still supporting future automation are becoming increasingly valuable for factories trying to grow sustainably.

The modular industry is entering a new phase where automation, materials science, and manufacturing efficiency are starting to work together in more meaningful ways.

At Offsite Dirt Network, we are seeing more companies focus on practical innovation instead of simply creating “new technology” for the sake of it. “The best products solve real problems inside factories and on jobsites. They save time, improve consistency, reduce labor strain, and help businesses become more scalable,” said Audree Grubesic.

Sika’s approach also highlights something important happening across industrialized construction right now: companies are beginning to understand that innovation needs to be approachable. Factory owners need solutions they can realistically implement today while still preparing for the future.

The ability to transition gradually into automation instead of making massive upfront changes could become a major advantage for many modular manufacturers over the next several years.

As more modular factories search for ways to improve production speed, quality control, and workforce efficiency, innovative products like the SikaBiresin® AP300 are helping shape the future of offsite construction. Solutions that simplify installation processes, support automation, and improve consistency inside the factory are becoming increasingly valuable across the industry.

At Offsite Dirt Network, we will continue highlighting the companies, materials, technologies, and industry leaders driving meaningful change through smarter systems and practical innovation. Because the future of construction is not just about building faster — it is about building better with products and solutions designed to improve how we manufacture, install, and deliver projects.
